David Morris
Director
Summits of the Americas SecretariatMr. David Morris has been the Director of the Summits of the Americas Secretariat since February 2008. In January 2007, Mr. Morris joined the OAS’s Executive Secretariat for Integral Development as Executive Program Manager. Prior to moving to the OAS he had over 25 years of professional experience in the field of international development. From 1988 through 2006 he was employed with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), working on the formulation, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of development cooperation policies and programs in the Americas and Asia. From 2004-2006, Mr. Morris served as CIDA’s representative in Canada’s Permanent Mission to the OAS. Prior to that posting he was the Director of CIDA’s Inter-American Program, where he was actively involved in managing CIDA’s programming relations with various Inter-American agencies and institutions.
His other field experience involved a four year posting to Costa Rica (1999-2003), and two years in the Philippines (1994-1996). From 1996-1999 Mr. Morris was the Director of Social, Political and Economic Dimensions in CIDA’s Canadian Partnership Branch. From 1988-1994 he served first as senior program manager and then as country program analyst with CIDA’s Bangladesh program. Prior to joining CIDA, from 1980-1986, Mr. Morris coordinated international development education exchange programs with Indonesia, Bangladesh, India and Somalia.
Mr. David Morris holds a Master’s degree in International Development from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada; and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria, British Colombia. From 1973-1980 he was with the Ministry of Human Resources of the Province of British Colombia.Ambassador Sonia Johnny
Martin Huenneke
As a Summit Specialist with the Summit of the Americas Secretariat, Mr. Huenneke is responsible for the coordination of Joint Summit Working Group (JSWG) activities, as well as managing the follow-up and reporting processes in various Summit Mandate areas, including agriculture and rural life, employment, environment and disaster management, the fight against corruption, tourism, and trade. He also lends technical and logistical support to the Summit Implementation Review Groups (SIRG), supervises the Summit Information Network and other Secretariat communications, and coordinates the Summit Secretariat internship program.
Previous to joining the Secretariat, Mr. Huenneke worked extensively in project management, monitoring and evaluation for the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) of the OAS. Martin also has significant experience in managing inter-institutional relations, including the coordination of regional workshops for the OAS and management of bi-lateral educational programs between U.S. and Mexican institutions of higher learning.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he holds an M.A in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, an M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction from New Mexico State University, as well as a B.A. in French and Political Science from the University of Missouri.Cristobal Dupouy
Alejandro Aristizabal
Alejandro Aristizábal, a national of Colombia, joined the Summits’ Secretariat in May 2008 as Technical Coordinator for the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG). In this capacity, Alejandro is responsible for coordinating and facilitating all logistical and technical support in relation to the organization, conduct and follow-up of SIRG meetings. He drafts background and working documents for the Regular and Ministerial SIRGs, and coordinates updating of SIRG information on the Summits’ Secretariat’s website. He is also the liaison with the Latin American Permanent Missions, as well as their national coordinators for the Summit, on all issues pertaining to the SIRG. Similarly he serves as a key contact with the organs and entities of the OAS. Alejandro will provide ongoing technical assistance in the negotiation process of the Declaration of Commitment of Port-of-Spain.
Since 1997, Alejandro has worked for the General Secretariat of the OAS in various assignments, including: at the Secretariat of the Administrative Tribunal of the Organization, the Secretariat to the Permanent Council and the General Assembly, and at the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.Savio D'Souza
